Unforgottable Experience during Camping Trip

It has become a normal norm that school organises holiday trips for students during the end-year holidays.Last year, our class had the chance to experience a camping trip which still stays vivid in my memory. We reached our destination after the rumbling of vehicles echoing through my ears for a couple of hours. There were forty of us.We were all divided into seven patrols with each a leader. We had general instructions to follow before we set up our tents. For the first time in my life, I learned to pitch a tent.It was a wonderful experience. The creaking, squeaking, chirping and chattering sound of the wildlife was a treat of nature.I could breath the fresh country air and marvelled at the beauty of the fauna and flora around us.Not forgetting the irritating pest, the mosquitoes were launching like torpedoes on sumptuous grounds.I learnt to tie knots, cut firewood, fetch water from the stream, make fire and cook a meal.As we know, modern living deprives of such survival skill of doing such tasks.I couldn't help lingering my mind back to the time of our ancestor where there were no such modern conveniences. That evening, we had dinner by the camp fire. The rice tasted half-cooked and the vegetables too soggy. We were very careful not to burn our food. The sardines were excellent taken straight from the can. However, we were too hungry to complain. After dinner, we circled round the camp fire and sang with gusto. Each patrol had to participate an impromptu sketch and mimic gestures.Surprisingly, those sketches were definitely better than those on television. We had so much fun beyond description and tickles through the night. We adjourned to our respective tents after the session. That night,I could not sleep so were my friends. The excitement of the day lingered as we spent the night talking, telling ghost stories, jokes, riddles and of course accompanied by the sounds of the wildlife. The next day, after a quick breakfast of bread and beans, we continued our trek up to the designated site where we had to report of our arrival. We were welcomed by our teachers who were there to pass up of our survival skills.Needless to say, many snore and slept like dead logs in the bus on the way home.It was home sweet home. Most importantly, we learnt not to take the modern convenience for granted.
